ePHOTOzine

Whilst working at Magezine Publishing Ltd, myself and another developer built ePHOTOzine from scratch. It's the 4th version of this website, having been around for approx 6 years.

The website is an online photography magazine, the largest in the UK. It was rebuilt using PHP & MySQL, along with Javascript, AJAX, and XML. It's run from two dedicated servers, one for the MySQL database, and one for the web server (Apache).

At the time of writing, the site has approx. 76,000 members, and recieves over 430,000 unique visitors a month.

Version 3 of the website was severely dated, and needed modernising. The code was also very unstructured and needed to be re coded to be able to handle future traffic increases and extended content.

We began by redesigning the homepage (Which you can see below). Then we rebuilt the website from scratch. It took approx. 6 months from start to finish, and now includes an extended gallery system, and bespoke forum, a complete new news, reviews and articles system, and much much more... We also employed a lot of Javascript and Ajax, including in areas such as the Avatar Sudoku game which I developed.

Member feedback had been listened to throughout the re-development, and many other new features were either added or improved upon. Since the launch, ePHOTOzine has been so successful that they have now launched thier own online TV network of sorts. They are also now verified to have the largest member base of any online photography magazine in the UK.
